Get to know Senior Software Engineer, Erika Menezes! Since joining PickTrace last year, Erika has been crucial in building out our product – working on backend and infrastructure as well as dipping her toes in frontend and Android work. Talk about an all-rounder!

Describe yourself in 25 words or less: 
Erika loves getting computers to do awesome things and learning along the way.

Where did you grow up and what is your favorite memory of that place?
I grew up in Goa, India. Some of my favorite memories are spending the summer holidays with my grandparents, and eating delicious seafood.

In school, what was your preferred subject and why?
Math! It was fun, practical and did not require memorization or subjective grading.

How do you like to spend your free time? Any hobbies of note?
I like to paint, grow plants and enjoy good food.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?
I’ve lived in 10 cities in the last 10 years.

Before PickTrace, what was your most interesting or unusual job?
At Microsoft, I worked on a machine learning prototyping team. Among other projects, I made a program to compose original music.

How would you describe your current role to a child?
I make sure people who grow our food get paid correctly.

What has been your proudest moment since joining the PT team?
I was proud of my role and the entire team going live with the 3.0 product, and I’m proud of the steady progress and improvements we’ve made over the last year.

What is your favorite part of working for PickTrace?
Working with smart thoughtful people and having an impact on how our food gets made.

Finally, and most importantly, if you were a piece of produce what would you be and why?
A mango, sweet and tropical.
